L'Escala is a fishing village with a diverse landscape, ranging from sandy beaches formed by coastal dunes to rocky hills and coves. This landscape lies between the protected Montgrí Massif and the Empordà marshes.
Not to be missed: Montgo Bay, Riells beach, the other typical beaches of the old town and the beaches of Empuries.
L'Escala is also famous for its cuisine, especially its anchovies, preserved using ancient methods, and a visit to one of the anchovy factories is highly recommended.
